Your health and safety are our top priority. Walking, while beneficial for many, can present challenges, especially over longer distances or varying terrains. Please read through our medical advisory to ensure you’re well-prepared and aware of the precautions necessary to have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Pre-Event Health Preparations
- Consult Your Doctor: We recommend consulting a healthcare provider before participating, especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, recent injuries, or are on medication.
- Physical Conditioning: Training in advance can make the experience more enjoyable and prevent injury. Gradually build up to the event’s distance by incorporating regular walks and strength exercises as needed.
- Medications: If you have conditions that require medication (e.g., asthma, diabetes, or allergies), ensure you have an adequate supply and understand how to use it in the event context. Consider informing event staff if you need assistance.
- Stay Hydrated: Hydration is crucial during physical activity. Start hydrating well before the event and drink water at regular intervals along the course.
- Snacks and Nutrition: Light, easily digestible snacks are recommended to maintain energy levels. Avoid trying new foods on the day of the event to prevent stomach upset.

On-the-Day Medical Advice
- Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine: These can lead to dehydration or an increased heart rate, which may affect your ability to participate safely.
- Rest and Warm-Up: Make sure you’re well-rested and spend a few minutes warming up to avoid muscle strain. Light stretches and a gentle pace can help prepare your body.
- Dress Appropriately: Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear to prevent blisters, chafing, and sunburn. Sunscreen and a hat are also recommended if the weather is sunny.
- Know When to Stop: Pay attention to any signs of discomfort, dizziness, or exhaustion. If you experience chest pain, extreme fatigue, or any unusual symptoms, please stop and seek medical assistance immediately.
- Pace Yourself: Walking events aren’t races, so take breaks if needed. Listen to your body and avoid pushing beyond your limits.
Medical Assistance and Emergency Protocol
- First Aid Stations: First Aid stations will be available along the route. If you need medical attention, do not hesitate to approach a station or ask a volunteer for assistance.
- Emergency Contact: In case of a medical emergency, call the event’s emergency contact number or alert the nearest event official. Our staff is trained to manage emergencies and provide prompt care until medical personnel arrive.
- Personal Emergency Information: We advise participants to carry identification and a list of emergency contacts, along with any relevant medical information such as allergies, medical conditions, or medication requirements.
- COVID-19 and Respiratory Health: If you have any symptoms of a respiratory infection, we encourage you to refrain from participating to protect yourself and others.
- Pre-Event Screening: For some events, health screenings may be conducted before participation. Please cooperate with staff if such measures are in place.
